What makes you happy? Make a list of ten things that give you joy. They don’t have to be huge or expensive or once-in-a-lifetime experiences, just things that make you smile or make you feel contentment. You can add more items to your list- but keep it simple and don’t overthink it. To give you an example, here is my list, just quickly off the cuff with no analyzing:
- good coffee
- a flower in a bottle on the windowsill
- a cat curled up in my lap while I’m reading
- something good to read
- clean sheets
- hearing a favorite song
- walking on a pier
- a visit, phone call or message from a friend
- knowing my family is safe
As I look at this list, it seems that it doesn’t take much to make me happy. That’s a good thing, because it means that for me, happiness is easily attainable. At my ten year high school reunion, a former teacher read predictions that were made when we were seniors. Mine was, ” Michele Meier is still smiling.” I hope I am always smiling and don’t ever turn into one of those ornery, difficult to please people.
How about you? What makes you happy? Take a look at your list and make sure that you include as many of your happiness triggers into your day as you can. Abraham Lincoln said “Most folks are about as happy as they make up their mind to be.”
Happiness is a choice. Choose to be happy.
